Research and Shared Creation Lab

ARTS RESEARCH AND SHARED CREATION LAB – CINEMA AND OTHER MOVING IMAGES

Aceda ao conteúdo em português.

The Arts Research and Shared Creation Laboratory is one of the initiatives of the Renata Ferraz project, awarded the Individual Scientific Employment Stimulus by the FCT. The objective is to create spaces for dialogue between artists and researchers from different universities in Portugal and other countries, focusing on Cinema and Media Arts. The Laboratory is a space for discussion and the production of artistic works and scientific texts by its participants. In addition to serving as a network for supporting individual projects, it is a space for the gestation of collective projects around the idea of Shared Creation and other non-canonical ways of creating-researching in Arts. Because of its transdisciplinary nature, the Laboratory proposes a practice that challenges power dynamics, prioritizes inclusion and diversity of thought and its creative processes. Without isolating itself, the Laboratory makes its productions available to the community, facilitating the communication of processes and results, and designs projects together with it.

Biographical note:

Researcher-filmmaker-actress. Renata Ferraz obtained a PhD in Arts (Performative and Moving Image) from the University of Lisbon. She has a master’s degree in Multimedia Art – Audiovisual (FBAUL) and a degree in Performing Arts (Instituto de Artes — UNESP). Considering theory and practice as equivalent strands in the creation-research processes, she makes films and researches in the areas of Shared Creation in Cinema and Media Arts. She is currently an integrated researcher at Labcom—Communication and Arts (University of Beira Interior) and a collaborator at CIEBA—Research Center in Arts (University of Lisbon). While developing the script for her next film, part of her research involves following the trajectory of her first feature film, Rua dos Anjos (Rising Sun Blues), awarded at the Ann Arbor Film Festival, Queer Porto, and nominated for the Youth Award at Sheffield DocFest.
